Mr. Speaker, last night I had the pleasure of meeting the investigative journalist and founder of the online news site Canadaland, Jesse Brown. I was a participant in a Canadaland podcast recorded before a live audience at the Kinsella Auditorium at St. Thomas University hosted by Jan Wong. The panel consisted of Jacques Poitras, author of Irving vs Irving – Canada’s Feuding Billionaires and the Stories They Won’t Tell, Tracy Glynn – the founder of the New Brunswick Media Co-op, Charles Theriault – the documentary filmmaker, and myself. Our task was to discuss the impact that Irving’s near monopoly over English newspapers in the province has on the coverage of forestry issues. Mr. Speaker, it was a groundbreaking forum for New Brunswick, which will have a national audience through the Canadaland show. Alternative media is also playing an increasingly important role in New Brunswick through outlets such as the New Brunswick Media Co-op. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
